Lena Hoschek SS14

I could never ignore Austrian designer Lena Hoschek's show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Hoschek's Spring/Summer 2014 Collection took place at Bradenburg Gate on July 2, presenting the designer's latest creations.

This inspiring collection throw us back into the late 50's and early 60's, pairing ladylike class with a youthful spirit. Polka dots, gingham, high waist, soft hues, delicate textures, refined fabrics, girly cuts, adorable shoes, tea dresses - if this collection isn't all about picnic chic, I don't know what it is!

The make-up and hairstyling are also absolutely lovely: flawless beehives (Audrey Hepburn, much?), pastel pink lips, sweetheart rosy cheeks and the classic, timeless eyeliner adding some edge to the darling appearance. And these are, among many others, the reason why I love Lena Hoschek's fashion design. Her retro frocks are to die for! *Catwalk coolness ahead!*

Como é que eu poderia ignorar o desfile da estilista Austríaca Lena Hoschek durante a Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week em Berlim? A colecção Primavera/Verão 2014 de Hoschek deu-se no dia 2 de Julho, nas Portas de Bradenburgo, apresentado as últimas criações da designer.

Esta inspiradora colecção evoca-nos os finais dos anos 50 e o começo dos anos 60, combinando elegância e classe com um espírito juvenil. Polka dots, axadrezados, cintura subida, tonalidades suaves, texturas delicadas, tecidos requintados, cortes femininos, sapatos bonitos, vestidos de chá - se isto não é picnic chic, não sei o que será!

A maquilhagem e o styling estão fantásticos também: bouffants impecáveis (Audrey Hepburn, much?), lábios rosa pastel, bochechas rosadas e  o clássico e intemporal eyeliner para contrastar com a aparência ultra-querida. E estas são, entre muitas outras, a razão pela qual eu adoro as colecções da Lena Hoschek! As suas indumentárias retro são gritar por mais! 

The Blonds FW 2013

If Kubrick and Hitchcock would have been fashionistas instead of filmmakers, the result could have been pretty close to the latest runway by The Blonds. Phillipe and David Blond went bloody (literally) great for their Fall 2013 collection presented in the NY Fashion Week.
Glamourous knives as accessories, edgy details (did you notice how the nails were done??), blood spatter, and giant diva-like platinum wigs that ooze allure with insanity.
This is such a fantastic tribute to Psycho and The Shining - and I'm pretty sure American Psycho and Dexter could've been also a bonus inspiration!
I love the Hitchcockian femme fatale meets psychopath style. The Blonds really managed to capture some old school horror vibe with sophisticated accents, achieving the perfect balance between flawless quirk and classy gore.
This collection is an exquisite method of evoking the feeling of a classic horror film. I've been dreaming with a collection like this ever since I searched on Ebay for a blue dress that would be similar to the one the creepy twins wore in The Shining, and I'm glad I'm not the only one finding it inspiring.

Channeling dramatic, theatrical outfits is this design duo's cup of tea, apparently. My jaw dropped at the dress with iconic images of Jack Nicholson!

Se Kubrick e Hitchcock tivessem sido fashionistas em vez de realizadores, o resultado teria sido algo muito próximo ao último desfile dos The Blonds. Phillipe e David Blond arrasaram na colecção de Outono 2013 apresentada na NYFW.
Glamour em cutelos, detalhes arrojados (repararam nas unhas??), salpicos de hemoglobina, e perucas gigantes de um platinado digno de diva que emana sedução com insanidade.
Este é um tributo fantástico aos filmes Psycho e The Shining - e certamente que American Psycho e Dexter teriam sido também uma inspiração extra!
Adoro o estilo de mulher fatal Hitchcockiana com a inquietude de psicopata. The Blonds conseguiram, portanto, captar a essência dos filmes de terror e suspense mais old school com traços de sofisticação, alcançando o equilíbrio perfeito entre excentricidade imaculada e classe salpicada de sangue.
Esta colecção é um método primoroso que evoca o cinema de terror clássico. Tenho sonhado com criações do género desde que andei pelo Ebay à procura de um vestido azul que fosse semelhante ao das sinistras gémeas do The Shining, e fico contente por não ser a única a encontrar nelas tamanha inspiração.
Projectando indumentárias dramáticas, teatrais e cinematográficas parece ser o departamento desta dupla de designers, aparentemente. Fiquei de queixo caído com o vestido que tem como padrão imagens icónicas de Jack Nicholson!
O que será que o Norman Bates iria achar desta colecção? E, mais importante ainda, o que acham vocês?

Saint Laurent Fall 2013 Runway

Plaid flannel shirts or chunky cardigans with a hand-knit flavor were layered over glamorous evening dresses in the lamé-figured chiffons and glittering tulle that Yves himself loved to use in the seventies and eighties. Front-row maven Catherine Deneuve, faintly open-mouthed, might have recognized them—although they were chopped short and worn with fishnet tights and that decidedly un-dainty footwear, or thigh-high second-skin stretch-leather boots.

Saint Laurent took a turn for Nirvana — plaid and all — this season, something which would surely ruffle Yves Saint Laurent's feathers were he still alive. Sporting an unkempt look, models walked the runway in oversized plaids, floral baby doll minis, Peter Pan collar dresses, tartan shirts, fishnet tights, grungy leather miniskirts and dresses, biker jackets, flat black boots and oversized cardigans, often worn over mini dresses (think walk of shame...). It will be interesting to see how retailers and customers react to this sharp departure from classic YSL. That said, there were a number of the brand signatures including a ruffle dress, a leopard coat and a variety of embellished looks that Saint Laurent's traditional demographic may gravitate towards when they see the pieces taken out of the Coachella-esque context. Take a look at the collection, and share your thoughts on the new chapter of YSL below.  Love it or hate it? Needless to say, I love it. Passionately. Period. I believe this collection to be one of the most inspirational fashion experiences I've ever witnessed! I can describe it as an übercool grunge approach with a junkie twist. An urban tale, showing off  the dark side of an edgy, vampy woman. So rad! The hairstyle and make-up slightly reminded me of Kate Moss back into the heroin chic business. There is this interesting feeling that the models are rock stars in rehab, with a little hint of kinderwhore from the early 90's riot grrrl scene. All I can state is that plaid, collars, mini dresses, leather, fishnets, sequins, biker boots and the colour black altogether simultaneously in the same scenario creates such iconic references that got me longing for every single thing I've seen delighting that catwalk. The so-called fashion industry needs more bold creations like these. One must be never afraid of a punk revival or a grungy take. Next Fall will definitely smell like teen spirit. Creio que esta colecção seja uma das experiências mais inspiradoras jamais testemunhadas! Posso descrevê-la como uma aventura grunge e ultracool com um toque junkie. Uma história urbana, exibindo o dark side feminino e irreverente, roçando o vamp. O styling fazem-me recuar até à fase heroin chic da Kate Moss. O desfile dá a impressão de que todas estas modelos são estrelas rock em reabilitação, com laivos de kinderwhore chegado até nós através dos anos 90 e respectivo panorama riot grrrl. Só consigo declarar que  xadrez escocês, colarinhos, mini vestidos, cabedal, meias de rede, lantejoulas, botas estilo motard e a cor preto simultaneamente no mesmo cenário consegue criar referências icónicas capazes de me deixar ao ponto de cobiçar tudo o que deslumbrou a catwalk. A tão controversa indústria da moda precisa de mais criações sólidas como estas. Há-que arriscar nos revivalismos de cariz punk e grunge, sem medos.  No próximo Outono poderemos, portanto, fazer jus ao hino Smells Like Teen Spirit.

PFW: Olympia Le-Tan Fall 2013

This Olympia Le-Tan Autumn collection is brilliantly pretty! It reminds me of Heidi, Red Riding Hood and The Sound of Music - coordinated with some classic 40's/50's austere shapes and seams, with a Bavarian milkmaid Lolitaesque twist! Charming alpine figures for this runway post-war silhouettes. From the Alps with love - and a preppy vibe - in the spotlight of the Paris Fashion Week runway!

Esta colecção de Outono de Olympia Le-Tan é brilhante! Lembra-me a Heidi, o Capuchinho Vermelho e Música no Coração - coordenado com cortes clássicos e costuras austeras inspiradas no pós-guerra, típicos das décadas de 40 e 50, com um toque de Lolita da Baviera! O Tirol mereceu, portanto, o devido protagonismo e um lugar ao sol na Paris Fashion Week.
