Joseph Lorusso

Native Chicagoan painter Joseph Lorusso, born in 1966 of Italian descent, received his formal training at the American Academy of Art and the Kansas City Art Institute. However, he considers himself self-taught as an oil painter, majoring in watercolour while still in school. His artistic work has been influenced by the Impressionists, especially Manet and Vuillard. John Singer Sargent, Sorolla and Whistler also led to the development of his characteristic style.
Lorusso creates warm shades of solitude, tedium and still life in his dreamlike, virtuous paintings, capturing diffuse loneliness, exploring the aesthetics of emotion and bringing the concept of bohemian escape into the twenty-first century.
I would describe his work as visually seductive, subtly visceral, contemporary yet timeless, with masterful brushstroking and a signature style warmth... His sense of mood is quite relatable to the viewer actually, which creates an intimate connection to his Art.
Lorusso's work has been shown internationally and has won many awards and honours. He has also been featured in numerous magazines, galleries and private collections. See more of his work here.
