Welcome Autumn!

September is gone. October rose from a dry-almost-dusty Summer, and finally, a newborn Autumn arrived (yes, I'm aware that it has already arrived in September, so this might sound a bit delayed)!
Autumn is my favourite season, it always suggests romance and oozes nostalgia (hopefully with some pomegranates on display). A myriad of dramatic warm colours lurk in the woods and in the streets, contrasting with the emerging monochromatic clouds and its promise of rain - I can't wait to hold my brolly!

Such seasonal poetry is another meaning to the fact that it is finally acceptable to wear trench coats, wellies, felt hats, leather gloves, stockings, mittens and the good old overknee socks! Oh, gotta love Autumn.
I just looove when I ride my bicycle and I can tell it's Autumn by the deliciously crunchy noise I can hear as the wheels crush the pale yellowish dead leaves. It makes me feel like closing my eyes and enjoy the ride itself as if it's all a dream - and of course, it also reminds me of crispy chips, as Garfield would say.

I have been longing for Fall through the whole Summer, while experiencing an outburst of heatwave-induced stress... and here you are, foliage splendor! Summer into Winter through darker, shorter days, like an epitome of life. Summer is gone and the chill of Winter is on the horizon!

Me and Claudia Blonde officially welcome Autumn!

To Autumn
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,
Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

Where are the songs of spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too, -
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.
John Keats (1795-1821)

ODE AO OUTONO
1
Estação de neblinas, doce e fecunda!
Companheira íntima do sol, com ele vais,
Quando ele abençoa e inunda
De frutos as videiras junto dos beirais;
Pra vergar de maçãs a musgosa macieira
E a fruta por inteiro tornar madura
Pra inchar as cabaças, prà avelã ficar gorda
E pense haver dias quentes a vida inteira,
Pois o verão seus favos pegajosos transborda .

2
No chão dum celeiro encontra-te descuidada,
O vento da limpeza ergue-te os cabelos.
Ou num rego meio-ceifado, em fundo torpor,
Tonta do perfume das papoulas, parada
A foice, junto da ceara a ceifar te demoras;
Às vezes, tens direita, qual rebuscador1,
A pesada cabeça, ao passar a ribeira;
Ou, junto de a prensa, observas tranquila
A cidra a gotejar no fluir das horas.

3
Que é das canções da Primavera? Onde hão-de estar?
Esquece-as, tua música também tem valor –
Nuvens orlam o dia morrendo devagar
Tingem os restolhos de sua rósea cor;
Diminuindo, se o vento fica mais brando;
Os cordeiros balem na próxima colina;

John Keats (1795-1821)
