It Girl: Alice Glass

Alice Glass is weird, crazy and absolutely cool. The impersonation of cool actually. The famous soul and spirit of the Crystal Castles - along with Ethan Kath. Born in '88, this Canadian rebel enfant terrible is one of the most inspiring female artists that I admire. I love her dark smudged signature eye make-up and her vivid, bright, vibrant lip colours.

With her ripped tights, pencil skirt and retro t-shirts, her somewhat street style screams "I don't give a fuck", and that is what makes her so effortlessly cool. She also very often wears a black leather jacket , she looks pretty comfortable in her clothes.

I was listening to III, Crystal Castles's last album, which is also my favourite (very somber, compared to their chiptune, outer-space melody history), and I just thought I should post about Alice, since she's my age and someone I usually look up to when it comes to style inspiration. I just adore her and worship her stage presence.

She can still be feminine yet maintaining her empowering rocker/grunge/edgy look.

There are some things she said that I must quote because, not only I could identify myself with her ideas and that made me think she's got some serious riot grrl! attitude going on...

I'm feminine: I'm wearing a skirt, I own a bra. I think that whole big blonde look has been taken over by transsexuals now. I'm a natural blonde, but that blonde hair, big tits idea of what men want, it's now really unfeminine."

"We need an army because the mainstream hates women... A lot of kids are more sexualized now than they were years ago and I'm not sure it's a coincidence... Like fucking Katy Perry spraying people with her fucking dick, her fucking cum gun coming on fucking children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with 'I wanna see your [pea] cock' on it... Don't prey on vulnerable people like that. Don't encourage little girls to get dressed up, to have cupcakes on their tits to get people to lick them off, 'cause that's what you're insinuating," — Alice Glass, on why she doesn't like Katy Perry and the mainstream.

I hope I see her alive anytime soon!

  5. This girl's style is very cool, I love the pencil skirt/rocker t-shirt combination. The bit of interview you posted below is brilliant, I agree that there's way too much sexualisation going on with kids clothes. I particularly hate when parents dress their kids in the tracksuits that say "juicy" on the arse. Of their child!
Mini rant over, lovely blog Nancy.
