Juno Calypso

It's about time you get acquainted with Juno Calypso (b. 1989), a London-based awarded artist who created a slightly bizarre, glazed-eyed alter ego named Joyce, trapped in an elaborate glossy wonderland. Joyce's world takes place in pastel-hued rooms filled with kitsch decor  and a haunting feeling of emptiness and indifference yet on the verge of a nervous breakdown. It's a bit like Cindy Sherman meets Valley of the Dolls. Melancholy, feminity, Botox-like artificial glamour and deadpan humour. Juno captures herself as Joyce using both analog photography and digital video, brilliantly adding an 1980s-inspired vibe.

  4. Love these pictures! My favourite is the second one of the girl kneeling on the sofa. It's kind of haunting but familiar...if that makes any sense!

    Great post :)

  5. Guh, I love these photos so much, especially the first and third- it reminds me of a combination of Norman Bates (in the creepy motel way) and the Stepford Wives.
